Thesis Ideas
Posted by admin on November 9, 2007
In the comment section of this post, feel free to post about what you are going to or thinking about doing your MA thesis on. One of our major goals for this and future symposiums at Monmouth is to broaden student’s horizons and allow them to connect with others who have similiar intellectual interests.
Let’s get the communication started: Please comment in this post with your thesis ideas, fields of interests, etc. Hopefully students will be able to find others with similiar interests they can begin to network with to accentuate their own and other’s scholarly work.

Hi there – It’s really hard to write briefly about a thesis topic, but it’s good practice, so here it goes. I’m going to start my thesis research this Spring on nineteenth century American writer Elizabeth Stoddard. Dr. Vetere is my primary reader and I am still shopping around for my second! I am interested in the relationship between economics and kinship systems generally; and more specifically, how mid-late 19th century writers interpret, imagine, and communicate the economic and social changes that preceded them.

Like Toni, I have a hard time trying to write briefly about my thesis topic. Every time I do it comes out a little different it seems. However, here is what I am thinking so far…
I am going to start my thesis research in the spring on the evolution of the writerly text towards electronic literature. Once I have documented the writerly text’s most recent evolution, I would like to look at its general move towards electronic literature. With more schools across the country and around the world adding e-lit to their programs or tracks for New Media Studies, I would like to look at how this effects the literary canon, pedagogy, and how we decide what is and is not literature.
Dr. Tietge is my primary reader and I am still shopping for my second as well! I am looking for a second reader who has a solid theory background and is interested in issues of authorship and canon.
